How come the ancient Indian artists never claimed Intellectual Property Right on their extraordinary work???

Highly evolved and Exquisite stone work in the ancient Indian Temples never have an artists name. Its incredible to think from a European point of view where the tradition of personal ownership of art is a rule. I think, in ancient India and even to an extent today, art is still considered as a gift of god and perhaps cant be claimed.
